Is proud to announce its Second Annual Competition for 2024

Writing Poetry & Visual Art

    Inside Australia 

    Languages: Arabic & English

1- Objectives: 

  • Discover writing & painting talents among the youth 
  • Encourage creativity 
  • Exchange cultural knowledge between the CALD Communities
  • Encourage writing in Arabic & English
  • Encourag young people to express what they feel through writing or drawing
  • Openness to the other, understanding its culture and accepting him.
  • Paying attention to the mental health of young people and creating harmony between CALD communities 

2- Targeted people 

Primary and secondary schools, students from CALD and Arabic background students.

Ages groups

8- 13 years old

14- 18 years old 

3- Description:

  • Write a Poem and draw it.
  • Subject: free theme 
  • Languages: Arabic & English 
  • The competition can be submitted by one contestant or shared between two, one writing and the other drawing
  • The poem must not have been published in the past in any format- paper or digital 
  • Canvas measurement : 30x40cm, acrylic paint
  • Submission are open:

         From 1 June –  28 July 2024

  • Results are announced on the Celebration Day: 25 / August /2024 (Celebration Place: Lurnea Community Hub, Phillip’s Park )

NB: A free workshop: Writing poetry $ Painting will be hold on Saturday 13/ July / 2024, from 11am- 2pm, at Liverpool Library, to assist contestants in the Competition.

4- Competition Prizes

Total competition prizes to the value of 1,200 are to be distributed as following:

Top prize: $300 in Arabic for the primary school 

Top prize: $300 in English for the primary school 

Top prize:$ 300 in Arabic for the secondary schools

Top prize: $300 in English for the secondary schools 

N.B. All contestants will receive 

medals

5- Important Dates:

Submission is open 

from 1/ June / 2024 – 28/July / 2024

Workshop :Saturday 13/ July / 2024

5- Academic Committee

A panel of a group of poets, writers and academics, to assess all submissions:

• Dr. Najme Habib, Sydney, Professor of Arabic Literature and Literary Criticism at the University of Sydney. A storyteller, novelist and literary critic who has published many books

• Prof. Amira Issa, Sydney – Australia, Professor of French Literature and Literary Criticism at the Lebanese University, has published publications in literary criticism and poetry. Prof. Amira was awarded the Academic Palm with the rank of Knight of the French State. She is a poet and has published 5 Collections of Poems.

• Mrs. Nawal Sami,  professor at western Sydney University.

. Mrs Wadad Farhan: writer & reporter 

• Mrs. Ghada Majzoub, Poet, Sydney, recently published a collective book of poetry called Leaving/Departing Birds

• Mrs. Kilda Eid, Poet, Sydney, she has published 2 collections of poems.

. Mr Mohamad Dirani, poet, he published 2 Collections of poems.

. Mrs. Raghda Al Samman, poet, she has published 2 collections of poems 

. Mrs Imame Al Samman visual artist

. Mrs Randa Moussa, visual artist
